Dying Matters Awareness Week

St. Joseph’s Hospice is supporting Dying Matters Awareness Week 2015 with a number of events designed to encourage people to talk, plan and live.

Afternoon Tea at the Death Café
An informal, facilitated conversation around death and dying in a supportive environment, with tea, cake and time to share or simply just listen.

When: 3pm–5pm, May 21

Big Fish on the Big Screen
Free screening of the Tim Burton film ‘Big Fish’ –  Ewan McGregor is superb in his role as a son trying to learn more about his dying father by reliving stories and myths he told about his life.

Annual General Meeting

Tower Hamlets Community is inviting the public to the Annual General Meeting (AGM).The agenda will include board elections and appoint new members to the Board of Directors.

There will also be a presentation of the AGM 2014 and 2015 Annual report. It will be a chance for local people to give their feedback on local services and tell the community about their experiences and tell them how they can improve life in the area.

Purple Moon Drama

Purple Moon drama is hosting its first showcase this term. Purple Moon Drama provides a space for young people to develop performance skills and express themselves creatively.

They also will perform to the local community in the end of term showcase where they can invite family, friends and industry professionals.

It is an opportunity for young people to come together and explore the world of theatre.

Zumba Fitness Party

A charity Zumba Fitness Party in Lewisham is being held to help save a three year old boy suffering from a brain tumour. Three fitness filled hours with 11 instructors raising money for Adam. Free snack, fruits and water will be provided.

When: 1:30pm-4:30pm, May 17
Place: Telegraph Hill Centre, Kitto Road
How much: £15 in advance – £17 at the door.

Lewisham Library celebrates the 1970’s

Lewisham library is hosting a unique event to show life in Lewisham in the 1970s.
Inspired by John Goto’s acclaimed Lovers’ Rock portraits from 1977, the library is building a community archive of what life was like around Lewisham at the time.
Come share personal photographs, albums and even stories with the library community.
The library would love to see pictures from the fun times in the 70s in Lewisham.

When: 3:00pm-7:00pm, May 29

Charity Football Day

The FA Cup By Any Means Tour, arrives in Croydon! To mark their efforts to raise funds for Helen and Douglas House, a children’s hospice, the club will be putting on two friendly matches during the afternoon.

Wanderers Ladies 1st XI take on Women Beyond Borders. WBB are the ladies team from the charity, Football Beyond Borders, and when the teams met earlier this season it was a thrilling 9-3 win for Wanderers!

Wanderers Men’s 1st XI meet old friends Clapham Rovers. The Rovers have the edge with 10 wins to 5, but hold just one FA Cup to Wanderers’ five. The most recent clashes ended in a 2-0 win for Rovers and a 2-2 draw.
